Efficiency, sensitivity and the heart of our system
Some martial arts rely on strength, others on speed. Wing Chun relies on something else, something that seems almost paradoxical at first glance: efficiency. This southern Chinese martial art has been refined over generations to achieve as much as possible with as little effort as possible. Straight lines, a central line of defence and a fine feel for contact with the opponent make Wing Chun one of the most intelligent martial arts of all. For Sifu Hassan Mahamid, it is the heart of his Fight & Defense System.
Sifu Hassan’s path in Wing Chun is long and impressive. He started in 1993 in the system of Grandmaster Leung Ting within the EWTO. In 2003 he deepened his skills in the system of Sifu Emin Boztepe, known as EBMAS. From 2015 he continued his training with Si-Suk Frank Kohlhase. This path was crowned by high gradings, including the title of Sifu in 2016 and the fifth Master Level in 2018. This depth of experience shapes every Wing Chun class with us.
The principles of Wing Chun
Wing Chun thinks differently from most martial arts. Instead of evading an attack, it often seeks the direct, shortest route to the target. Instead of relying on raw strength, it uses the opponent’s energy. A central concept is the idea of defending and attacking at the same time instead of one after the other. In addition, there is a special training of sensitivity in which you feel your opponent’s intentions through the contact of your arms before you even see them.
- Maximum efficiency, because every movement serves a clear purpose
- Effective even against physically stronger opponents, through technique rather than strength
- Trained sensitivity that enables lightning-fast reactions
- Ideally suited to close range, where real conflicts are often decided
The rich tradition of Wing Chun also includes classic training equipment and weapons. On the wooden dummy you refine your techniques and develop toughness and precision. With the double knives and the long pole you get to know the weapon-based side of this art. We complement this with Escrima, the Filipino art of weapon fighting, which Sifu Hassan has practised since 2003 and in which he was awarded the fourth degree in 2022.
Why Wing Chun is at the heart of what we do
Wing Chun and Escrima make up the largest part of Sifu Hassan’s personal training concept. The reason for this lies in the philosophy of this art. It fits perfectly with his guiding principle of flowing. Just as water adapts and can still unleash enormous power, Wing Chun teaches you to yield softly at the right moment and to act decisively the next. This combination of gentleness and determination is the common thread that runs through our entire system.
If you’re drawn to a martial art built not on muscle but on brains and feel, you should definitely give Wing Chun a try. It is a journey that can change the way you see movement and conflict forever.
