The art of eight limbs
Muay Thai is regarded as one of the toughest and at the same time most elegant martial arts in the world. It is respectfully called the art of eight limbs because, unlike classic boxing, eight points of contact are used. Two fists, two elbows, two knees and two legs turn the body into a complete weapon. This versatility and enormous striking power make Muay Thai an indispensable part of our Fight & Defense System.
Sifu Hassan Mahamid’s enthusiasm for Muay Thai runs deep and is anything but theoretical. In 2008 he travelled to the birthplace of this martial art. In Thailand he trained at renowned gyms, including the Kaewsamrit Gym in Bangkok and the Fairtex Gym in Pattaya. There he learned the techniques and traditions of Muay Thai directly from experienced Thai trainers. Today he passes on this authentic experience to his students in Offenbach with great passion.
What makes Muay Thai so effective
The strength of Muay Thai lies in close combat. While many disciplines seek distance, Muay Thai feels right at home when the opponent is close. In the so-called clinch, the tight hold, knee and elbow techniques unfold their full effect. Then there are the notorious low kicks that quickly stop even powerful attackers in their tracks. These tools are extremely valuable for realistic self-defence.
- Eight points of attack for an exceptionally versatile defence
- Powerful knee and elbow techniques for decisive close combat
- Effective low kicks that quickly weaken an attacker
- Intense conditioning that builds endurance and toughness
Muay Thai training at Mahamid Martial Arts
In our concept, Muay Thai mainly complements the medium and close range. While Taekwondo and Karate cover long range and Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu the ground, Muay Thai ensures that you remain able to act in the clinch as well. This creates a seamless system in which there is the right answer for every distance. It is this well-thought-out combination that makes our training so effective.
Of course, you benefit from more than just the techniques in Muay Thai. Training is intense and takes your fitness to a new level. If you train regularly, you become more resilient, stronger and mentally tougher. At the same time, we always make sure practice is controlled and safe, so that beginners and advanced students alike find their place.
Muay Thai culture also includes a deep tradition of respect that is very close to our hearts. In Thailand, this martial art is practised with great reverence, and it is exactly this attitude that we want to pass on. When you train Muay Thai with us, you not only learn powerful techniques but also how to treat your training partner with respect. Toughness in training and respect in how we treat each other are not mutually exclusive; they go hand in hand. This combination of physical intensity and inner discipline makes Muay Thai far more than just a physical sport.
