Martial Arts

A system with many roots: the best of every martial art

What makes a martial art truly effective? This question has accompanied Sifu Hassan Mahamid all his life. His answer is surprisingly simple and demanding at the same time. No single style covers every situation. Only the clever combination of the strongest elements of different arts produces a system that holds up when it really counts. The entire training concept of Mahamid Martial Arts is built on this idea.

Over decades, Sifu Hassan has gained experience in competitive sport and as an instructor. From this practice he has filtered out what he considers the most effective techniques and combined them into his own Fight & Defense System. With us, you therefore don’t train isolated disciplines side by side, but a well-thought-out whole in which the individual arts interlock. Punches, kicks, elbow and knee techniques, ground fighting, joint locks and the use of weapons complement each other to form comprehensive self-defence.

Self-defence comes first

For all the variety, we pursue one clear goal: you should be able to defend yourself in as many situations as possible. That’s why we look at the ranges holistically. What happens when the other person is still far away? What if they are already getting close to you? And what if you end up on the ground? For each of these phases there are suitable tools in training, which we build up step by step. This gives you the best possible chance of effective self-defence.

The inner attitude is at least as important to us. We teach that the skills you learn here serve only to protect yourself or others. For us, martial arts are not a means of demonstrating strength but a way of taking responsibility. It is this combination of physical effectiveness and maturity of character that shapes our students in the long term.

Another advantage of this combined approach lies in the learning path itself. Because the arts build on each other, training remains exciting for years and there is always something new to discover. Beginners start with clear, simple fundamentals and quickly get a feeling of success. Advanced students deepen the finer concepts and link the areas into increasingly complex sequences. As a result, you grow continuously without ever reaching a point where training becomes boring. It is precisely this long-term perspective that many of our students appreciate, staying with us for years.
